Johanneshof Cellars Marlborough EMMI Methode Traditionnelle 2009
EE
Description
“Toasty, bready, rich and ready core with aromas of brioche and nut, roasted stone fruits, citrus peel and baked apple. A powerful mousse engages the palate first with flavours of oat & wholewheat bread, baked apple then lemon. Dry, lengthy, crisp & delicious. Best drinking from today and through 2026+.” Cameron Douglas MS 5 stars - 94/100 "Restraint & elegant it hints at toasted brioche, slivered almonds & preserved citrus on the nose. It's quite dry (dosage is a modest 4 g/l), giving it a lovely cut & chalkiness on the finish...shows a bit of mature richness.." Wine Advocate 91/100 Pts

Vineyard
Johanneshof EMMI Methode Traditionnelle Brut is a tribute to the mother of our owner/winemaker Edel. EMMI was named in honour of this very special person with her very bubbly, sparkling personality.
JOhanneshof Cellars EMMI is a cuvee of 75% Pinot Noir & 25% Chardonnay, made from 100 % hand harvested Marlborough grapes, 50 % coming from the Wairau Valley and 50% from our MAYBERN vineyard, the home block in Koromiko. This vineyard is close planted in a Champagne clone of Pinot Noir on a 30 degree Northwest facing slope, Marlborough’s first steep vineyard site. Maybern was first planted in 1977. No irrigation is used and the soil type is sandstone. It is the only vineyard in Marlborough planted on Kenepuru soils.
Vinification
Johanneshof's owners Edel and Warwick are proud to craft all sparkling wines on site with their own French equipment. A percentage of Emmi is fermented & aged in French oak to enhance its complexity. Using traditional methods it was tiraged in March 2011, fermented & aged it in its original bottle and left on its yeast lees for 9 years before disgorging in January 2020. Emmi is matured in our Underground Rock Cellars at a constant temperature of 12 degrees Celsius, before being riddled by hand & disgorged.
